Our client, a market-leading investment and advisory group, was looking for a new short-term office space to relocate their London team to. They had found a CAT A+ office near Liverpool Street station; the location was perfect, the space just needed some extra work to make it right for them.
The main adaptations needed were to improve the functionality and flow of the space. They needed more meeting spaces and better acoustics, all while maintaining a sense of openness. Most importantly, all modifications needed to be completed quickly for their team to move in.
The focus was on updating the space while preserving its existing features, causing minimal disruption while still having a big impact.
The office already had desks and furniture in place, so we redesigned the floor layout to improve the flow and be more tailored to their working model. This included closing off an open nook to create a phone booth, offering staff a quiet space for calls without disturbing others.
The simple solution of repositioning desks and furniture created pockets of areas, including a quiet area for focus work, and neighbourhoods that are separated with breakouts and a new all-hands area.
The space had been vacant since 2019, completed just before the pandemic, and needed upgrades to meet the latest electrical standards. All power and data cables had to be replaced, which meant opening the floors to upgrade the cabling and accommodate new desk positions. We installed grommets for easy access and ensured minimal disruption by carefully lifting and replacing the existing floors.
We also created a front-of-house meeting room in the arrival area, perfect for welcoming visitors and holding private discussions. We enclosed the existing teapoint with a half-height glazed wall, maintaining a feeling of openness while providing an acoustic barrier for more privacy when required.
The impact
We delivered the project on time with no disruptions to our client’s move-in schedule. The project spanned over a 4 week period, with zero snags or call-backs. The space is now a highly functional, agile workplace that meets all their needs, perfectly introducing quiet and private areas while still feeling open and connected.
